Beauty Secrets From The Asian Kitchen

Famous French writer, Jean De La Bruyere (1645-96) once said that "there are no ugly women in the world; there are only women who do not know how to look pretty."

That may have been the situation in 17th century France but as we move on in this new millennium, surely there are ways and avenues for any women on this planet to maintain their beauty or improve upon it! Beauty Secrets From the Asian Kitchen was one such workshop attended by 30 ladies from the Singapore Prison Service last Friday evening.

Gathered on the ground floor of a beautiful colonial house called "The Country Lodge" located within the Changi Prison premise, they were seated in a semi circle surrounding a table, behind which stood our very own food and health specialist, Devagi Sanmugam who presided and conducted the beauty session.

Everyone waited with baited breath, wondering what Devagi would enlighten them with. On the table, there was a gamut of cooking paraphernalia such as galangal, cinnamon, eggs and other spices and roots.

Looking around, it was clear that everyone's eyes were brimming with excitement and anticipation!

Once the workshop commenced, Devagi did not disappoint.

Everyone was all ears as she mixed the various ingredients and sputtered the benefits of her exotic concoctions simultaneously. Volunteers were aplenty as many of the ladies present were willing to come forward and make the session much more livelier.

From Devagi's demonstrations, one can only conclude how easy it is to make these scrubs, facials, cleansers, masks, lotions, moisturisers and so much more right in our very own homes. She even claimed that most of these treatments were derived from the various cultures of the Asian region, hence the name for this workshop!

And to think that, without practitioners such as Devagi, the only way one can get their hands on these treatments today is probably to spend a lot of money in some fancy spas!

And what about those products that can be found in the pharmacies and supermarkets?

With a wide smile, Devagi explained that whatever one makes at home would clearly be cheaper, fresher, non-toxic and contain no harmful ingredients that may cause any negative effects to the users. It may take some time and effort but it is definitely an act of love for the good of oneself, family and more!
