Have A Heart, Think Before You Eat

Keeping heart problems away is a matter that is close to our hearts. Eating food with less "bad" cholesterol and doing regular exercises are part of the process of caring for one's heart.
Some quick tips to good "heart" health:
- Increase your intake of fruit and vegetables. Vegetables are free of cholesterol and are also good sources of dietary fibre. All kinds of lentils, beans, pulses, onions and garlic are good. Don't leave out broccoli, citrus fruits and carrots from your diet
- Eat more cereal for breakfast, especially bran cereals.
- Eat more "oily" fish such as mackerel, sardines, tuna, salmon and black pomfret. These types of fish are full of Omega 3 fatty acids that can increase your level of good cholesterol.
- Drink tea, especially green tea, as it is high in tannin content that helps to reduce bad cholesterol in the body.
- Lemon grass is also found to interfere with an enzyme reaction that leads to greater bad cholesterol production.
- Limit your intake of meat, fish and poultry to no more than 1 serving a day. Avoid fried foods and go for boiled, steamed or baked food.
- Avoid whole milk but go for low fat milk. Use less butter, coconut oil and foods containing high amounts of these.
- Eat eggs no more than two or three a week. Limit alcohol intake and exercise regularly.
A recipe to get you started on your wholesome diet.
